The Department of Tourism – Region 2 (DOT-R2) Office conducted a Regional Farm Tourism Summit and Trade Fair with the theme: “Innovative, Inclusive, and Sustainable Farm Tourism in the Cagayan Valley Region”.

The Department of Tourism – Region 2 (DOT-R2) Office conducted a Regional Farm Tourism Summit and Trade Fair with the theme: “Innovative, Inclusive, and Sustainable Farm Tourism in the Cagayan Valley Region” last March 13, 2023, at Amancio Nicolas Agri-Tourism Academy, Cordon, Isabela.
 
The said program was attended by Engr. Christopher Morales, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Tourism, Honorable Abegail Sable, Vice Mayor of Cordon, Mr. Winston Singsun, Assistant Regional Director of the Department of Trade and Industry – Region 2, Ms. Noime Liangco, President of Amancio Nicolas Agri-Tourism Academy, Ms. Mary Corinne Mamba, National Secretary of Samahan ng Sakahang Panturismo, and the Owner of CPM Integrated Farm, Engr. Rolando Pedro, Agricultural Center Chief III of Department of Agriculture – Region 2, Mr. Randolph Cacacho, OIC – Chief, Industry Development of DTI-R2, Mr. Christopher Musni, Science Research Specialist of Department of Science and Technology – Region 2, Mr. Thomas Santos, Senior Tourism Operations Officer, and the Cagayan Tourism Office (CTO) headed by En.P. Jenifer Junio-Baquiran.
 
Together with the above-mentioned, Municipal and Provincial Tourism Officers, farm tourism owners and operators, DTI-R2 Office, DA-R2 Office, Sierra Madre Outdoor Club (SMOC), and travel agencies and associations of Region 2 completed the entire group of tourism stakeholders.
 
During her opening remarks, Ms. Christine Wandangan, Tourism Operations Officer of DOT-R2, welcomed the guests and thanked those who supported the program.
 
Mr. Romeo Caranguian, Senior Tourism Operations Officer of DOT-R2, introduced the first-ever Regional Farm and Tourism Summit and Trade Fair as he highlighted farm tourism as a tool for sustainable development.
 
Hon. Lynn Zuniega, Mayor of Cordon, represented by Vice Mayor Abegail Sable, acknowledged the guests and expressed her gratitude as the program was being held in their thriving municipality which will create interconnectivity in every province, prosper farm tourism in Cagayan Valley, and put the region in the spotlight not just in the country but for the whole world.
 
Dir. Troy Alexander Miano, Regional Director of DOT-R2, reinforced that the whole nation should know our camaraderie, especially in farm tourism. He also acknowledged the guests and important key people that were present. Likewise, Engr. Christopher Morales, Assistant Secretary of DOT and the Keynote Speaker during the program greeted everyone present and highlighted the two (2) important sectors that should go together and drive the economy: agriculture and tourism— as they provide prosperity in the country.
 
ARD Winston Singsun of DTI-R2, discussed the importance of farm tourism in the region and its potential, while Ms. Mary Corinne Mamba, CEO of CPM Integrated Farm shared the farm tourism program updates and hoped that it will provide awareness and appreciation for the younger generation.
 
Ms. Noime Liangco, President of Amancio Nicolas Agri-Tourism Academy tackled the future of farm tourism as the perfect enticement that will make farms sustainable and profitable. Additionally, Engr. Rolando Pedro, ACC III of DA-R2, mentioned that there is a need for us to continuously innovate farm tourism for sustainability and diversify our farming activities.
 
Moreover, Mr. Christopher Musni, Science Research Specialist of DOST-R2, discussed digitalization in marketing while Mr. Randolph Cacacho, OIC – CID of DTI-R2 talked about the aspects of strategic marketing and promotion.
 
Towards the closing remarks, Mr. Romeo Caranguian, on behalf of RD Troy Miano, expressed his heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation to the participants for the success of the program. He hoped for more partnerships by strengthening the collaborations in future endeavors.
 
This program aimed to increase public knowledge and emerge the purpose of tourism growth in Region 2.
