Gandayana of the Week

#GANDAyanaoftheWeek (Gandang Cagayana, Kahanga-hanga) | Carla Pulido Ocampo | Sanchez Mira, Cagayan

In observance of International Women’s Month this March, we will be featuring women who are the game-changers of Cagayan. We recognize their role in the community which supports the tourism industry, and acknowledge their influence which signifies women empowerment.
For our first feature, we present to you our Gandayana of the week, Ms. Carla Ocampo of Sanchez Mira.

Ms. Carla Pulido Ocampo is a filmmaker, and community worker. She co-founded groups that are purveyors of alternative cinema culture in Northern Philippines such as Habi Collective, Balay Habi Studio, and Pelicula Unión.
She was formally adopted by the Bontok Igorot people of the Philippine Cordillera and was given the indigenous name ‘Khayapon’. She is best known for her filmography centering on the culture and lore of the Bontok Igorot.
Carla is the writer, researcher, and editor of the seminal documentary, “Walang Rape sa Bontok” (international title: Bontok, Rapeless). She wrote and directed the short film, “Tokwifi” (translated Star) which has become one of the most critically-acclaimed short films in the Philippines after its back-to-back Best Short Film wins from the prestigious Gawad Urian and FAMAS Awards.
Truly an inspirational woman… Keep doing you, Ms. Carla! 💜
