#CagayanTouREADsm | 1st Baybay Festival, Buguey, Cagayan 🌊
The Municipality of Buguey, led by Hon. Mayor Licerio Antiporda III, has made a significant stride towards becoming the Festival Capital of Cagayan with the launch of its 1st Baybay Festival on February 20-21, 2025. This vibrant event celebrated the town’s rich marine resources and pandan industry, underscoring its commitment to sustainable coastal management and livelihood enhancement for local fisherfolks.
As the fourth official festival held in Buguey, the Baybay Festival bolsters the town’s reputation, complementing its title as the Crab Capital of North Luzon. With a jurisdiction of 24,000 hectares of seawater, the town plays a pivotal role in conserving the Babuyan Channel’s marine biodiversity. Mayor Antiporda’s initiatives, such as organizing fisherfolk associations and establishing a Pandan Seedling Center, aim to support sustainable economic development and skill enhancement in the community.
The festival also featured cultural and culinary showcases, including a folk dance competition and a cook fest, further spotlighting Buguey’s cultural heritage and culinary potential. The successful launch of the Baybay Festival signals Buguey’s continued dedication to promoting its traditions, industries, and sustainable tourism, solidifying its position as a key cultural and culinary destination in the province of Cagayan.
